Desert Rescue
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Lake Havasu City Fire Department was dispatched to a desert rescue in the SARA Park area after a group of hikers became fatigued due to extreme heat and were unable to return to the trailhead.
Two engine companies, two rescue side-by-sides, one ambulance, and a Battalion Chief responded to the SARA Park trailhead. The responding units located the group of hikers, safely extracted them from the desert, and returned them to the trailhead using the rescue side-by-sides. There were no reported injuries to hikers or emergency responders.
The Lake Havasu City Fire Department reminds residents and visitors to take extra precautions when recreating outdoors during periods of extreme heat, including carrying adequate water, avoiding strenuous activity during peak temperatures, and planning hikes according to weather conditions.
